We’ve had the opportunity to manage and treat less common disorders such as:

Rare genetic disorders

  • Platelet dysfunction
  • G6PD deficiency
  • Genetic disorders are the result of faulty genes. Lifelong management is necessary. Dietary manipulations are needed to circumvent the metabolic defect. This is particularly important when the defect is an inborn error of metabolism eg., phenylketonuria. Malnutrition may be a major problem and should be managed as the diets can be restrictive. Intellectual disability, seizures, behavioral problems, and mental disorders can also compound some of these disorders.

Inflammatory/autoimmune disorders

  • Psoariasis
  • Hidradenitis
  • suppurativa
  • Lichenplanus
  • Urticaria
Inflammatory and autoimmune conditions are treated with multiple medications. There may be periods of flare ups and remission. The management involves eliminating trigger foods and keeping the inflammation under control with the diet and bioactive compounds that have antioxidant/anti inflammatory properties. Treatment side effects have to be managed eg., immunosuppressants and corticosteroids. Mental health management is an integral part of the management. Living with these conditions can be quite debilitating leading to feelings of anxiety and depression in some cases.
